TSA Reaches New Low, Pats Down A Breast Cancer Survivor’s Chest
October 5, 2011 No CommentsA breast cancer survivor suffered a humiliating pat down at the hands of TSA agents, one which could have easily been avoided.
Lori Dorn is a breast cancer survivor and recipient of breast implants after a bilateral mastectomy. Flying from New York JFK to San Francisco, she was told that she would need to have a pat down due to her implants after TSAs saw them in the scanner. So, she immediately told the agents that she has a medical card in her bag that is issued to all women in her position, explaining the implants for situations just like this. But that simply would not fly.
You think the TSA would have understood the situation upon seeing her bald head and after her assurance of a card in her bag. But no. She would have to be subjected to an embarrassing pat down of her new breasts.
Luckily, Lori took her experience to the internet and blogged about her experience, discussing the moment when a supervisor was called over to handle the situation. ”She then said, ‘And if we don’t clear you, you don’t fly’ loud enough for other passengers to hear. And they did. And they stared at the bald woman being yelled at by a TSA Supervisor,” wrote Lori. How incredibly cruel.
I understand procedure, but embarrassing a cancer survivor? That’s just going too far.
