How To Buy A Car: Advice For Women, By Women
October 19, 2011 No CommentsThe car businesses is one of the most male-dominated industries. Men buy cars, sell cars, review cars, and fix cars. So where do women fit in? If I am a single woman with little auto-knowledge looking for a new car, what do I do? Finally, there’s a place just for me.
VroomGirls.com is a car buying website run by women, for women. It offers jargon-free advice about buying the right car, when to buy a car and how to get a good deal.
Creator Tara Weingarten spent 17 years reviewing cars for Newsweek and was fed up with being the only female in the business. Now she is reviewing cars for her own website, which also offers cool feature stories like “Tips for Driving in the Rain” and “Stick Shifts are Fun, Really.” Women can even purchase a car directly from the site without any pice bargaining or gimmicks.
Some may argue that the website in fact recreates the stereotypes of car-ignorant women. Or that it dumbs down car facts so that women can understand them. The site is filled with shiny colors, cartoons of stick thin white women and stories about Kim Kardashian’s new car. Despite these cliche attempts at attracting women web surfers, it’s a step in the right direction. I would prefer a happy medium between macho car ads and bright pink women’s ads. But until other car companies can cater to men and women, this will have to do.
