“Three-way” means three. Period.
It could be three women, three men, one man and two women, or, yes, two men and one woman.
Do you think your girlfriend is a lesbian? Are you just messing with her? It goes both ways you know.
I understand that it’s your birthday, but unless you specified exactly what you meant by “three-way” when you were talking to her, why wouldn’t she think of adding another man to your bed? She’s a straight woman who likes having sex with men, so of course that would be the first thing she thinks of.
If you want it to be you and her and another woman, you need to tell her. Then, if she’s okay with that, have fun!
But if she’s not willing to have sex with another woman, I’m afraid you’ll just have to miss out on this adventure. You can’t force her to be comfortable with that idea any more than she can force you to be comfortable having sex with another man.
Another option you guys could think of is going to a sex-on-premises venue for your birthday. These sex clubs can offer a controlled environment where you could just have sex with each other, while others watch and while others have sex in the same room. This could be a good alternative if neither of you are comfortable having same-sex play.

I guess I, too, always assume a three-way typically being two girls and a guy, at least in heterosexual couples. Two penises at the party would just be too much for me! But that being said, I love her answer. I am assuming she listed off names of men just to mess with him, which is a GREAT way of confronting not only his assumption that it would be two chicks but also making him put himself in her shoes. I mean, if you’re not cool with another guy, why should I be cool with another girl?
