Ex-Porn Stars Can Be Role Models
November 16, 2011 No CommentsSasha Grey is an ex-porn star. Does this mean she should not be allowed to read to elementary school students in Compton?
Some parents think so. In fact, they’re up in arms about the porn star-turned-actress reading to their kids. Grey may be trying to do good, but apparently it doesn’t make up for the supposed sins she committed in her past.
It also doesn’t seem to matter that she’s presently a legit actor on Entourage, which is the information the school board received before she came to visit the students and read to them out of the goodness of her heart for the guest reader program at Emerson Elementary School.
She’s been out of the adult industry for over two years and wants to help promote literacy and reduce poverty through the “Read Across America” program.
Let’s face it, all of us have skeletons in our closet. Her secret just happens to be a matter of public record (since there’s video evidence and all). I certainly don’t know anybody who has a squeaky clean past.
Sadly, this woman is being ostracized and harshly judged for wanting to help out in the community and believing that “education is a universal right.” What unjust punishment for lending a helping hand.
Sometimes, for the greater good (in this case, children’s education), we must set our judgments aside. Just because she did porn doesn’t mean she’s a whore or bad person. And it’s not like she’s coming to teach the children how to do porn or giving them a live demonstration. In other words, her porn background won’t rub off on them.
But by the parents’ reaction, this is what you would think. Frankly, get over it. Your kids will be benefiting from Grey’s participation and enthusiastic involvement in education and literacy efforts. So, ex-porn star or not, she can be just as big a role model as anyone.
