Update: Apple Says Not Anti-Choice
December 1, 2011 1 Comment
Apple has responded to allegations that it’s new app Siri is anti-choice.
They say that the omission of abortion clinics was “not intentional” and that the program will improve as newer versions are updated.
“These are not intentional omissions meant to offend anyone, it simply means that as we bring Siri from beta to a final product, we find places where we can do better and we will in the coming weeks.”
Let’s hope they are actually going to do this and are not just paying lip service to the cause. Reproductive health is a major part of everyone’s lives and such a popular product should not omit such important information.

Hopefully with all the pressure from feminist groups Apple will incorporate pro-choice answers soon with Siri. I love Apple products in general but this vital omission does not make me happy.
Why is it that the priorities of Apple programming include assisting men with having erections and not ways to help (predominately) women deal with the after-effects of rape?
Apple should program rape questions to direct people towards police stations and hospitals. And I must also add that as men can be raped, this is not only a useful tool for women, but men as well.
Though it can be said that most people may not be asking Siri for help after being raped or needing an abortion, could that not be said about finding nearby swamps? It’s time for Apple to put their programmers to work on improving the functionality of their bot for men AND women.
