Fear Of Bad Breast Implants Spreads
December 26, 2011 No Comments
Israel’s Health Ministry has set up a hotline for women concerned about unsafe breast implants. Over the weekend it received over 1,000 calls from women worried about the news that Poly Implant Prosthesis (PIP) implants could be unsafe.
In recent months warnings have been issued that PIP implants may leak, rupture quickly and may be missing a protective coating designed to keep leakage from going into the body. These bad implants are thought to have been a cause of several cases of cancer.
The implants have been banned in Israel and in France, and the French government has promised to pay for the removal of 30,000 bad implants. It is thought that PIP used an unapproved silicone gel for almost ten years. The gel is unsafe. In fact, it is commonly used in mattresses — not something you want shoved in your breasts.
How can a company knowingly use a product that will hurt women? It dumbfounds me.
Yes, the French Government is paying for removals, but that will not right the wrong. PIP manufacturers will still have created pain, unnecessary surgeries and even cancer for some women. And the consequence? Most likely, the company will shut down, but I doubt whatever measly penalty they pay will compensate for the pain and suffering of these women.
