Topless Women’s Basketball Is Sadly A Real Thing

Attention ladies everywhere! Dennis Rodman will be holding tryouts for a topless women’s basketball team that he himself will coach. Is it offensive? Charitable? Funny?
Whatever it is, it’s not a joke. Topless Basketball is actually happening. The idea started out as a classic story of rivalry: Rodman overheard that another strip club, Rick’s Cabaret, was creating a topless hoops team. So he decided to create his own team with exotic dancers from Headquarters Gentlemen Club. In true gentleman’s fashion, Rodman has challenged Rick’s Cabaret to a duel. The topless basketball game will take place in New York City and will raise money for charity.
There are a number of issues here, but let’s start with one that isn’t as obvious as blatant pervertery. What kind of breasts are we talking about here? A lot of real women athletes do not have the ta-tas that men go to a strip club to see. At the same time, if women with large breasts were running around a court — well, let’s just say that the ball would not be the only thing bouncing. And that would hurt. A lot. Sports bras were invented for a reason.
What we’re getting is a lot of women being paid to play a game that will probably hurt them. But its all for charity so that’s okay, right? Well, no. This reaffirms the fact that female athletes are only given attention (and put on the air) if they are sexualized. Lingerie football is bad enough. So come on Dennis Rodman, seriously? Don’t you have a daughter?
