Anti-Abortion Protests Hit Parliament Hill

Yesterday, anti-abortion protestors gathered at Parliament Hill in Ottawa for the annual March for Life. Campaign Life Coalition is demanding the Conservatives take a second look at abortion laws in Canada. Stephen Harper and the Tories have repeatedly stated they will not change any legislation regarding abortion. However, Conservative MP Steven Woodsworth brought a motion in front of parliament asking for a special committee to look at the definition of a human life in the Criminal Code.
There were around 10,000 agitators involved in the pro-life march; a group of several hundred pro-choice argued from the sidelines. They made an interesting observation: the majority of the people protesting against abortion were men. What’s even more interesting is that most of the speakers at this rally were also male. The smaller group was comprised of mostly women, with some male supporters. I am not surprised by these figures.
Why do many men still think they have the right to tell women what to do with their bodies? This abortion “debate” is just another way for men to control women and their reproductive cycle. I understand it takes two people to create a fetus, but the woman carries it for nine months. Since fetal transplant surgery hasn’t been developed yet (and even if it was, I am certain the majority of these protestors wouldn‘t volunteer for such a procedure), the woman has the right to choose whether or not she wants to be burdened with this task. In a pro-choice society, everyone can make the decision that is best for them and their situation. So fuck off and leave my rights to have an abortion alone.
