Gay, Single Dad Is Not A Pedophile

Last year, prominent Los Angeles photographer Paul Rusconi was arrested on suspicions of lewd acts with a minor and possession of child pornography. Rusconi had posted a photo of him with his two young daughters in a bathtub on Twitter. The girls’ nanny saw the snapshot and immediately called the police, accusing Rusconi of rape. The accusers were given custody of the children.
After the rape kits came back negative, Rusconi was cleared of any wrongdoing and regained custody of his kids. He is happy to be reunited with his daughters. However, he feels like these family members targeted him because he is a gay single dad. His twins were conceived with a donated egg and via a surrogate mother and he is raising them on his own.
I cannot begin to imagine how traumatic this experience has been for Rusconi and his daughters. People need to stop believing that homosexuality means sexual deviance. It’s a myth. Just because someone happens to be gay, doesn’t mean they have an uncontrollable sexual appetite. Rusconi didn’t rape his girls; he is a gay man, not an incestuous pedophile.
Nor is he a bad father because he is single; marital status, like sexuality, has nothing to do with someone’s ability to be a good parent. Men can raise children — and girls — by themselves, and these children grow up to become normal members of society.
There are plenty of homes with two married heterosexual parents that are abusive and dysfunctional and produce serial killers and psychopaths. In fact, I don’t know if there are any cases of children with LGTBQ parents who turned into perverts. Perhaps we should be more afraid of those seemingly “normal” families and the offspring they produce?
