For most children summer is a time of fun and relaxation. But for girls from families where female genital mutilation (FGM) is the norm, school holidays are the time when they are most likely to get cut. Between 500 and 2,000 girls will undergo FGM this summer in the UK. This happens either by taking ...

In America, anti-abortion advocates must be celebrating in the streets. Eleven states have passed laws this year restricting abortion and 370 state bills are under consideration. I think it’s time we finally accept that women will never be completely free to choose and there will always be an ongoing battle over rights to abortion. Also, for ...

This morning, Jordan Romero must be the happiest 13-year-old boy on the face of the earth. Having become the youngest person ever to summit Mount Everest, by two whole years, he can certainly tell all of his middle-school friends how he cheated death while climbing the world’s tallest mountain. But why does he need to ...

In many countries in the world homosexual people face discrimination. I’m not talking about simple name calling and hate bashing, but time in jail and sometimes the death penalty. What can we do to help these people in countries like the UK? And should we help them?

Oklahoma has just passed two incredibly controversial laws that limit a woman’s right to freedom of choice as well as invading her privacy around abortion. Informed choice? What’s that? Who cares?! Obviously the doctors’ rights are more important than the pregnant woman who might have a disabled child for the rest of her life.

A British MP has compared gay sex to fighting on the front lines of a war (as in life-threatening). The leader of his party is being urged to sack the homophobic naysayer. I’m not sure if that’s right, but this certainly needs to be addressed.

If you are gay in Uganda you go to jail. This is outrageous, but not such a surprise; many countries have these kinds of laws. The difference in Uganda is that they are trying to pass a law that would kill those with HIV by the death penalty. The UK, who recently passed its equality laws, ...

It’s official. You’re now allowed to have two mums or dads in the UK as gay and lesbian couples can both sign the birth certificates of their children. Previously, only the birth mother would be allowed and the second mother would have had to fight her way for legal recognition as a guardian in the ...
