After several teen suicides in the past year in Canada, it is clear that there is a bullying epidemic in this country. CBC‘s Connect With Mark Kelley decided to get an inside perspective from students about their experiences with bullying — either as the perpetrators or the victims. He set up a confession camera booth ...

Think back to your childhood playground. Do you remember little Tommy pinching little Susie’s butt? Or little Sally chasing little Archie around to get a kiss? Do you remember little Joe flipping up girls’ skirts? Is it all just innocent child-play? Not according to a new study, it isn’t. The study from the American Association ...

With Hallowe’en quickly approaching many of us are frantically searching for unique costume ideas. For Calgary school children their costumes must not only be creative, but promote community values. However, no one seems to know what this means. According to the regulations of Colonel Walker and Ramsay schools, costumes can not include masks, weapons, or ...

Parents in PEI are attempting to ban a book that they think is too sexual for their teenagers. But is it that bad? Subversive. Indecent. Sexually explicit. These are just a few terms attempting to justify banning books. Although I am one among many supporters of Freedom to Read Week, I can accept that educators don’t choose ...

Hannah Surber is an example of how times are changing and women are making their mark on the academic world–too bad it is still a huge deal that she has a vagina. Graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a BS and an MS completed in only 4 years, Surber is breaking a huge mold. Completing ...

English girls aren’t pulling any punches and they aren’t going to take it anymore — but is their aggressive behaviour spinning out of control? Research found that 200 women are convicted of a violent crime every week, a rate which has gone up 81% since 1998. “The girls we are dealing with in schools are ...

The tragedic deaths of many gay teens this summer had a silver lining — the groundswell of support from across the country. People came forward from all walks of life to assure teens that it does get better and schools made combatting homophobic bullying a top priority. But was this all a conspiracy by the homosexuals ...

The tragic suicides of five gay teens this month has Hollywood reacting to the epidemic of bullying. Unlike other attempts to lend star power to a cause, this one seems to come straight from the heart. Tim Gunn, from Project Runway, had the most emotional PSA. As a teenager he tried to take his life ...

Research in Australia has shown that “non-residential parents”, that is, mostly the divorced dads, don’t have enough involvement with their kids’ schools. They recommend teachers do more to involve dads. This is good in theory, but seriously, whose fault is this? If the dads want more involvement it’s up to them to ask for it.

So, yet again, Morning Quickie is bringing you a censorship story from the concerned parents of America. This time a school district banned Anne Frank’s Diary because of one parent’s concern “about the sexual nature of the vagina passage”. That’s right, only one person in the entire school district in Virginia thinks the passage is ...
