With summer on its way, there will be an onslaught of Hollywood blockbusters created to entice audiences to the theatres. Most of these films rely on the usual stereotypes to carry the story: the new film What to Expect When You’re Expecting is no different. In the movie, men have a great disdain for fatherhood ...

Once upon a time in a land far, far away, there was a little brown girl who liked watching Disney movies and reading fairytales. Although she liked to believe that the fairytales were real, the little brown girl knew better than that. You see, this little brown girl was always pretty sensible. She knew that ...

The new Avengers trailer is out (see below) and the movie promises excessive amounts of car explosions, life-threatening situations, gratuitous shots of cityscapes and epic “saving the world” battles. Fans of the original Marvel comic series will be happy to note that the Avengers consist of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and ...

Helen Mirren has been in the biz for more than 40 years; she’s won an Academy Award and is one of a very small handful of women over 60 to have a (semi-) permanent spot on the big screen. If anyone is qualified to comment on the state of women in Hollywood, it’s Helen. She’s ...

“Poor Ange,” you must be thinking, “She only makes 30 mill a movie.” While the problems of the rich and the famous often leave us feeling more bitterness than sympathy, the fact of the matter remains that Hollywood’s actresses earn far less than its actors. This week Forbes Magazine’s list of the top earning male ...

Boobs, boobs and more boobs. If it’s anything over PG13, it’s almost a given that we’ll be exposed to female nudity when we go see a movie. While most films are a far cry from Striptease, a new study by USC, a top-rated film school, finds that women are still cast in overly sexualized roles. ...

It’s a good thing that Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail, following the I’ve-lost-count violation of her DUI probation. I was beginning to lose faith even in the celebrity justice system.

The folks over at Jezebel, intrepidly patrolling the rumor mills and airwaves to protect us against the march of sexism, have weighed and measured The Daily Show – and woe to us, they found it lacking. Unfortunately, sexism is only one factor on a long list that will make Jon Stewart’s second decade in the ...

So who would you rather have a long, honest conversation with: Megan Fox or Kristen Stewart? I already know whom 90% of teenage boys would choose. And I know where the girls would probably lean.

I’ll just say it: the most misogynist film of the last 20 years has to be Wayne’s World. Way! If you leave out the movies that are purposefully trying to be demeaning to women, Wayne takes the cake. I’ll explain why and give you a few more of my picks after the jump.
